2023 Climate Action Day: ENERGY

1. Introducing PlanNYC: Getting Sustainability Done

In 2023, the NYC Mayor’s Office of Climate & Environmental Justice’s PlaNYC: Getting Sustainability Done incorporated climate education as a citywide priority.

2. Launching Climate Action Days

In 2023–24, the NYCPS Office of Energy and Sustainability launched Climate Action Days: four days dedicated to celebrating climate action in every school.

3. Passive House For Everyone (PHFE) joins

PHFE was proud to host a workshop at Boys and Girls High School (BGHS) for the inaugural ENERGY Climate Action Day, focused on Energy Efficiency and Passive House Building Science.

THEME: Energy Efficiency is the first renewable energy

PHFE Presentation

PHFE Co-Founder In Cho delivered a presentation on the five principles of Passive House (PH).

During the session, students explored these principles through hands-on experiments and interacted with sample materials to deepen their understanding of energy efficency.

CTE Presentations

CTE Programs: Architectural Drafting, Electrical Installation, and Computer Programming

Each CTE program presented their work exploring different energy efficiency themes.

Architectural Drafting

Students presented on their creative explorations of Passive House principles.

Electrical Installation

Students compared the energy efficiencies of different light bulbs.

Computer Programming

Students built an app to test if light bulbs met New York State requirements.

Hands-On Training

BGHS Students participated in Passive House hands-on training in workshop booths. They applied PH concepts of insulation, air sealing, and no thermal bridging in this exercise.
